Soft & Spiced Apple Blondies

Chewy, cinnamon-spiced apple blondies made with browned butter, juicy apple chunks, and a sweet maple glaze. A cozy fall dessert that’s perfect for gatherings, bake sales, or a weekend baking treat.

Ingredients

For Blondies
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup apple butter
  • 1 ½ cups brown sugar divided
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon divided
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 medium apples diced (Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Gala)
For the Glaze
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Method

  1. In a saucepan, brown the butter until golden and nutty. Stir in apple butter and 1 cup brown sugar.
  2. Whisk in eggs and vanilla. Add flour, baking powder, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir just until combined.
  3. Toss diced apples with remaining brown sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
  4. Spread batter into a greased baking dish. Sprinkle apples evenly on top.
  5. Bake at 350°F for 30–35 minutes, until golden and set. Let cool completely.
  6. For the glaze: brown the butter again, then whisk in maple syrup, powdered sugar, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  7. Drizzle glaze over cooled blondies. Let set, slice, and serve.

Notes

  • Apple butter (not applesauce) gives the blondies richer flavor and color.
  • Don’t skip browning the butter—it adds nutty depth.
  • Use firm apples like Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Gala for best texture.
  • Store in an airtight container for 2–3 days at room temp or up to 5 days in the fridge.
